What’s in a Name? (A Lot, Actually)

Your domain name is your online front door. It’s how people find you, remember you, and refer others to you. So it matters… not just how it looks, but how it works.

Let me give you an example straight from my own business.

At A2dd Branding and Digital Marketing, we didn’t just grab one domain and call it a day. Sure, we own www.A2dd.com , short, simple, and tied to our brand. (Fun fact: “A2dd” is based on the chemistry formula of advertising, which I mentioned earlier in the course, analysis, discipline, and dedication.)

But we also own multiple other domain names that don’t even mention our business name. Why? SEO strategy.

Think about it. If someone searches branding for private practice, we want Google to know that we’re an exact match. That’s why we also own:

These extra domains help drive traffic to our main website and improve our visibility in a competitive space. And let me tell you… as a digital marketing agency based in Florida, we’re swimming in a sea of other agencies. So we have to think strategically.

Now, I’m not saying every therapist needs to go out and buy five domain names (although some do). But if you’re in a niche with heavy competition, or if you plan to grow beyond just a solo practice, it’s something worth considering.

Here’s the key idea:
Your website domain name doesn’t have to match your business name exactly. Instead, think about:

  • How people search for your services online
  • What keywords naturally describe your niche
  • How your domain name will look and sound when shared aloud or written down

Wow, I feel like I’m giving away all my secrets here, but that’s okay. These tips are floating around the internet somewhere. The difference is, you’re here, doing the work, and learning how to build your practice strategically, the same way we do it at A2dd.

So go ahead and give your domain name a second look. Is it just a name? Or is it a tool you can use to get found more easily?

Let’s Talk Platforms: Wix, Squarespace, TherapySites, or WordPress?

This is one of the most common questions I hear from therapists just getting started:
“Should I use a site builder or go custom?”

Let’s break it down like we do at A2dd, with zero fluff, just real pros and cons.



Website Builders (Wix, Squarespace, TherapySites)

What’s Great:

  • Quick to launch. You don’t need to know anything about coding.
  • All-in-one setup. Hosting, security, and design tools are baked in.
  • Lower startup cost. A good fit for newer therapists or solo practices.
  • Support teams. You can contact support if something breaks.
  • Pre-designed templates. Choose one and get going in a day.

Things to Watch Out For:

  • Limited customization. You may hit a wall when you want something truly unique.
  • SEO can be tough. You’ll get the basics, but it may not be enough to really rank.
  • Not ideal for long-term growth. Adding features like blogs, courses, or client portals can get clunky fast.
  • Locked into their system. If you ever want to move, you might have to rebuild your site from scratch.
  • Same look, different name. Many therapists use the same templates, so your site might blend in.


Custom WordPress Websites (Built Just for You)

Why They’re Worth It:

  • 100 percent custom. Everything reflects you… your niche, your tone, your practice goals.
  • SEO-friendly. You’ll have the tools and structure to get found on Google and AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot.
  • Built to grow with you. Add courses, blogs, landing pages, or scheduling tools without hitting a wall.
  • You own it. No subscription, no lock-in. The site belongs to you.
  • Designed with purpose. When done right, it builds instant credibility.

A Few Things to Consider:

  • Higher upfront cost. But it’s an investment, not an expense.
  • Takes time. A good project might take a few weeks or more.
  • Needs upkeep. Plugins and updates are part of the deal (but we handle that at A2dd if tech’s not your thing).
  • You need the right designer. Not all freelancers understand what therapists really need. Make sure they get you.



Real Talk: What Should You Do?

If you’re brand new and need something live yesterday, a site builder like Squarespace or Wix is a good start. You can always upgrade later.

But if you’re serious about growing your practice, attracting high-quality clients, and showing up well on Google (or even inside ChatGPT’s results), then a custom WordPress site is the way to go.
