Where to Start and What to Avoid

This isn’t about learning everything. It’s about doing a few things well, starting today.
Start Here: Simple AI Wins for Your Practice
These are small steps that deliver big value.
1. Start with writing help
Use ChatGPT or a similar tool to:
- Write your “About Me” page
- Clean up your Psychology Today profile
- Draft captions for Instagram or Facebook
- Create responses to common emails or DMs
2. Use Canva with AI support
If you already use Canva, try:
- Using templates to make posts that look professional
- Magic Write to help you fill in text for guides, PDFs, or flyers
3. Reuse content instead of creating from scratch
If you’ve ever written a blog post, workshop outline, or even an email, reuse it.
- Feed it into ChatGPT and ask for a shorter version for Instagram
- Ask it to turn it into a LinkedIn post or outline for a reel
This saves time and keeps your message consistent.
What to Avoid in the Beginning
These are common mistakes that waste time or create confusion.
1. Don’t try to learn 20 tools at once
Pick one writing tool and one design tool. Stick with those until they feel familiar. You don’t need to know every AI platform out there.
2. Don’t copy and paste without editing
AI is fast, but it still needs your voice. Always read what it writes for you. Make sure it still sounds like you. Add a personal touch, a story, or a clarifying sentence.
3. Don’t expect it to be perfect
AI helps you start faster, not finish everything flawlessly. You’ll still need to shape it into something that feels true to your practice.
4. Don’t create content without a clear purpose
Before using AI to write something, ask:
Who is this for?
What do I want them to do next?
If you don’t know, the content will likely miss the mark, even if it looks or sounds good.
